BMW GPS & Infotainment Forensics
BMW Infotainment Forensics is a branch of digital forensics relating to recovery of digital evidence or data stored in automotive infotainment modules, often referred to as GPS units, Command or Head-Up Units. Data such as GPS routes, locations, way points, paired mobile phone data, calls, contacts and GPRS data can be recovered under forensically sound conditions. Digitpol is an accredited vehicle forensics examination agency, we conduct examination on BMW vehicles, BMW GPS, infotainment and media systems to undercover evidence that can be used to investigate crimes.
We conduct forensic analysis on BMW head-unit's (GPS systems) for Law Enforcement Agencies and testing for OEM’s. We specialise in the examination of built-in OEM GPS Satellite Navigation systems, known as Infotainment or Telematics systems. Our forensic team has been conducting research since 2009 on the investigative techniques to acquire forensics data from embedded vehicle GPS systems. Together with system manufactures we have built a solid and robust method to recover forensic data.
We can recover evidence from the following systems installed in BMW's from 2010

- Bluetooth ID from paired & non-paired phones (IMEI)
- All Call logs / Incoming / Outgoing / Missed
- last GPS fixes (last locations driven)

We specialise in Digital Investigation of Motor Insurance Fraud. We are experts in the analysis of “staged collisions” where a vehicle has been reported however the collision never happened. We deploy digital forensic methods to undercover the traces stored in vehicle modules. We recover the last events such as any collisions and can identify the vehicles engine temperature at the time of the collision, the KM reading and the time and date the collision took place. These parameters often assist claims handlers to solve or verify claims. In some cases a fraudulent claim can be detected.
