Automotive Chips

Automotive Chips, Microcontrollers (MCUs) and Microprocessors (MPUs)

We conduct forensic analysis on vehicles and automotive systems. We specialize in the examination of Chips, Microcontrollers (MCUs) and Microprocessors (MPUs) ECU's. Clusters, Keys and built-in OEM GPS Satellite Navigation systems, known as Infotainment or Telematics systems. Our forensic team has been conducting research on automotive systems since 2009. Together with system manufactures, we have built a solid and robust method to recover forensic data from all vehicle modules. We recover identification data, crash data, historic faults and errors from all types of vehicles. We examine vehicles on-site or at our forensic laboratory.

Since 2009 we have examined all of the microchips used in vehicle parts, ECU, Navigation, Telematics, ADAS, we also know everything about them.

ECU Forensics

Recovery of Deleted Digital VIN and KM data

We specialize in recovery of deleted KM, VIN and Serial numbers from all types of coded ECU's. ABS. Airbag modules, Instrument clusters (dashboards), Keys and Navigation units.

  • KM reading
  • VIN & Serial numbers
  • History and faults with times and KM
  • Crash data, events and historic faults.

Key Forensics

Is The Key Original? Does it belong to the claim?

Recovery of data from Keys -  Transponder Chip Forensics

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Transponder ID
  • How many keys are coded to the vehicle, which key is it
  • The last KM reading
  • The Fuel status
  • Vehicle data paired with the last entry

GPS Forensics

We can recover evidence from the following systems installed in the following vehicle brands.

BMW | Toyota | Ford | VW | Audi | Skoda | Seat (RNS510)

Volvo | Mercedes-Benz | Nissan | Toyota | Lexus | Porsche | Landrover

Many other OEM Systems which run similar operating systems. To find out more we require the VIN and the right documentation.

Insurance Fraud Investigation

Automotive Chip-off forensics can prove fraud, fraudulent claims of stolen parts such as stolen airbags, stolen navigation and infotainment modules, theft of steering wheels and other expensive parts are rampant globally. Digitpol has the expertise and forensic solutions to detect if insurance fraud is committed.

Our Expertise

Infotainment Forensics

We conduct forensic analysis on automotive GPS systems for Law Enforcement Agencies and testing for OEM’s. We specialise in the examination of built-in OEM GPS Satellite Navigation systems, known as Infotainment or Telematics systems. Our forensic team has been conducting research since 2009 on the investigative techniques to acquire forensic data from embedded vehicle GPS systems. Together with system manufactures we have built a solid and robust method to recover forensic data.

ECU Identification

On behalf of Law Enforcement Agencies and Insurance firms, our SMV team are capable of recovering deleted forensic data from coded parts. We can recover deleted KM, VIN and Serial numbers from flash and memory chips using a method known as chip-off forensics.

  • Chip-off forensics
  • Recovered Identities
  • Recovered Deleted Data
  • Recovered KM data
Crash Data Recovery

We specialise in Digital Investigation of Motor Insurance Fraud. We are experts in the analysis of “staged collisions” where a vehicle has been reported as crashed, however the collision never happened. We deploy digital forensic methods to undercover the traces stored in vehicle modules. We recover the last events such as any collisions and can identify the vehicle's engine temperature at the time of the collision, the KM reading and the time and date the collision took place. These parameters often assist claims handlers to solve or verify claims. In some cases a fraudulent claim can be detected.

Automotive forensics is a branch of digital forensics relating to recovery of digital evidence or data stored in automotive modules, networks and messages sent across operating systems. Vehicles are equipped with a CAN BUS network which enables automotive modules to operate on, messages are broadcasted across the CAN BUS network and can be recovered under forensically sound conditions. Digitpol is an accredited vehicle forensics examination agency, we conduct examination on all types of vehicles and stand alone parts to undercover evidence that can be used to investigate crimes.
