The Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) has launched an investigation into the Clinical Diagnostics laboratory, a spokesperson told the NOS. It was announced on Monday that the company had been hacked and data from hundreds of thousands of patients had been stolen .
Companies are legally required to report a hack to the Dutch Data Protection Authority within 72 hours. Clinical Diagnostics writes that they did so immediately. The AP declined to confirm this to NOS, as they "do not comment on ongoing investigations."
Companies must also inform hacked individuals and collaborating companies "as soon as possible," according to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The hack occurred a month ago, but the lab only informed the collaborating organizations, including the Dutch Population Survey (Bevolkingsonderzoek Nederland), last week. They decided to make the hack public last Monday. The 485,000 victims on the list have not yet been informed.
