Panel Discussion on Detecting and Defending Against Emerging Threats

The cyberthreat and fraud landscape is ever-changing, and attackers are upping the game with more advanced attacks. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated socially engineered schemes, such as phishing and virus-related scams. CISO Stephen Fridakis and consultant Rocco Grillo discuss how to ramp up defenses.

In a video panel discussion with Information Security Media Group, Fridakis and Grillo talk about:

  • The evolution of socially engineered attacks;
  • New wrinkles on insider fraud and scams related to health apps;
  • How COVID-19 has only fueled fraud attempts.

Fridakis is the senior vice president and CISO of WW (formerly Weight Watchers). He has responsibility for the management of IT security, retail location protection, privacy controls and oversight of networks and applications. Previously, he was the CISO of HBO. He also worked as a security scientist at AWS and served for many years as the CISO of several United Nations agencies (UNDP, FAO). His experience in IT security also includes positions at VeriSign, Oracle, Netscape and DHL.


Grillo is managing director with Alvarez & Marsal’s disputes and investigations global cyber risk services practice. He has been a trusted partner of multiple government agencies, including the FBI and Secret Service, where his cyber expertise was instrumental in investigating and resolving a variety of cybercrimes. Grillo’s experience and understanding of commercial sector challenges and national security objectives have influenced the development of national policy in cybersecurity, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Prior to joining A&M, he held leadership positions at professional services organizations, including Stroz Friedberg/Aon Cyber Solutions.
